Summary

In Chapter 17, Billie and Helen have a brief conversation about Minka. Minka has told Helen that Billie found and saved her in the Ukraine. Though Helen seems to dislike Minka, she says that is not the case. She believes Minka should come with them but should not be drawn into their lifestyles. Helen hints that there might be things Billie would have done differently. Helen is talking about Christopher “Kit” Taverner.

Chapter 18 drops back in time to November 1981. Billie is in Chicago on a mission. Billie is shocked with the level of attraction for Kit, and he apparently feels the same.
