Summary

The narrative returns to the interrogation room with Mad and Detective Bundle. Mad is remembering what happened the night her uncle died. She can still see the blood. Mad remembers a time her dad bought her a kitten for her twelfth birthday. She recounts to Detective Bundle how her uncle had a singing plastic fish up on the wall. The cat liked to try and claw at the singing fish; this drove her uncle crazy. one day Mad came home from school and Justin, her cat, was missing. She found her dead in the shallow creek behind their house. She suspects that her uncle drowned her. Mad wipes her eyes from the memory. Then she continues the story of what happened that night.
