Summary

This chapter opens with Vic's perspective. Vic is being interrogated again by Sergeant Mendes at the Hackensack Police Station. A man named Detective Ron comes into the room. He informs Sergeant Mendes that they have tried calling Vic's mom, but so far they have been unable to get a hold of her. Detective Ron leaves. Sergeant Mendes shows Vic a photo of an older man with bruises. Vic asks who the man is. Mendes tells Vic that when Baz and Nzuzi arrived in the U.S. as refugee minors, they were placed in the foster care system. One of the foster parents who took them in was a man named Thomas Blythe. She says that the person who beat him up so badly was Baz. Vic can't believe that Baz did this. It doesn't make sense. She tells Vic that Baz has also...
