Chapter 17: A Taste Of What's To Come Summary

Grace tries on the clothing, liking all of it, but is reluctant to wear the extraordinarily revealing bathing suit Kirby purchased. Jackie Lee begins a campaign to win her way back into the social life of Palm Beach. She and Kirby throw one elaborate party after another, hiring entertainers from musicians to magicians and Joya del Mar becomes party central. Unfortunately, reciprocating invitations are not forthcoming and she is unable to get back on the 'A' list.

Kirby makes Grace his 'special project'. He begins teaching her to wind surf as promised and Grace discovers it is exciting and is beginning to enjoy herself. A wipe out leaves her without the top to her new suit, and she turns away from Kirby, embarrassed, who pretends not to notice. From then on...
