Emerson sees what she calls phantoms or what she believes are the dead. However, Michael explains to her that they are actually people from the past, what he calls rips, that she is able to see because of her ability to travel to the past. Michael can see these things to, but his ability is to travel to the future so most of his visions are of the future.
