As a five year old, Nick bought a pill box for his mother in hopes of buying her back into his life. Unfortunately, Nick's mother gave the pill box to the maid.

Nick gives Lauren a ruby pendant in order to convince her to come back to him. This time the gesture works.

Lauren steals several cover pages to some bids that Sinco is making and gives them to Philip Whitworth in order to keep him from telling Nick lies about their relationship. Nick later learns about the theft and throws Lauren out of his life only to learn Lauren changed the dollar amounts of the bids before giving them to Whitworth.
