Part II, Chapter 3 Summary

David opens the door, shoots the coyote and opens the cells. The group get out and begin to round up guns, ammo and flashlights. As the group begins moving around the police station, they find death and destruction everywhere. Johnny begins to be attracted to Mary, and to look at David with curiosity as to how this little boy can command so much authority. Johnny is still being a wise cracker, and his sarcasm and jokes are not well received by the group.

The group finds weapons and ammunition for all but one gun, and Johnny is given the gun without ammunition. He does not like that. The group looks outside and see the windstorm picking up and the coyotes and buzzards sitting together watching them. As they are deciding what to do and looking out the door, suddenly...
