Part I, Chapter 5 Summary

David Carver is the young boy whose sister was killed by the cop, and as the group is sitting in the cells after Mary is thrown in, David thinks about how he ended up here. His family was on vacation in an RV, and now his sister is dead and he, his father and his mother are in a police jail cell. When Mary was fighting with the officer, David was able to secure one of the shotgun shells off the floor, and places it into his pocket. He does not know why he did this, but feels it is very important.
