Summary

In Chapter 6, Scarlett and Julian are on a raft when she wakes, and he is rowing them toward a shore that is still some distance away. He says the boat is too small for three passengers, and that he already dropped Tella off on the shore. Scarlett is overcome with rage and slaps him, then expects retaliation but he says he does not hit women. Scarlett says Tella's safety is the only thing that matters to her. Julian says Tella wants the same thing, but says Tella also wants to remind Scarlett that life is about more than being safe.

Scarlett thinks about the disappearance of her mother, Paloma, and how her father had gone crazy after her disappearance. She fears what he will to do Tella and Scarlett. Tella staged their bedrooms to look as if they were kidnapped...
