Summary

In Chapter 71, Kvothe paused his story. The mayor entered the Waystone Inn to speak with the Chronicler. When Kvothe and Bast left the room, Bast pleaded with Kvothe to resume his lessons.

In Chapter 72, Kvothe resumed his story. He wrote a new song for Meluan. Kvothe followed Denna as she met her patron. He saw Denna holding a knife to a bald man’s throat as a woman laid sprawled on the ground in an alley. Denna and the other woman left the man. Kvothe followed the two ladies into an inn. He listened as Denna spoke with the scared girl about how to succeed in the world as a woman.

In Chapter 73, Kvothe reflected on the teachings of Teccam, a philosopher. Kvothe met Denna in the city. He tried to convince her to take Maer Alveron as her patron, but she wanted...
