Summary

In Chapter 51, Kvothe boarded a boat going toward Vintas. Threpe gave Kvothe words of advice. Threpe said that wise men fear three things: the sea in storm, a night without moon, and an angry gentleman.

In Chapter 52, Kvothe briefly described the misfortunes he encountered during his travels, including inclement weather, pirates, treachery, and shipwreck. However, he did not elaborate on the details because he felt they were not relevant to his story.

In Chapter 53, Kvothe reached the city of Severen in Vintas. He was poor, dirty, and hungry upon his arrival. Kvothe pawned his lute with the knowledge that he could buy it back in 11 days.
