Summary

The novel opens with a map of Pantala, the continent where most of the events take place. The next section, titled A Guide to the Dragons of Pantala, lists the three tribes (HiveWings, SilkWings, and LeafWings) and gives attributes of each. The guide includes information that LeafWings are thought to be extinct, though the reader knows that is not true. The next page is The Lost Continent Prophecy, issued by a NightWing named Moon from Pyrrhia. The prophecy warns of a land “Where dragons are poisoned and dragons are dying/ And no one can ever be free” (12).

The Prologue is set in Pyrrhia from Moon's perspective. She has met a SilkWing dragon named Luna who was blown onto the beach here. From Moon's view, Luna is a symbol of the life on Pantala, which many thought was a myth. Moon has the...
