Summary

The novel opens with a map of Pyrrhia, which is shaped very much like a dragon and depicts where the various tribes are located. The next section is titled A NightWing Guide to the Dragons of Pyrrhia and includes a listing for each of the seven major tribes with an image of each and basic information. The NightWing listing is meant to be mysterious, indicating that the identity of the queen is secret and these dragons can read minds and tell the future. The SandWing listing indicates the queen is dead and three daughters – Blister, Burn, and Blaze – are involved in a war for the throne. Each has created alliances with other tribes meaning almost the entire country is fighting in the war.
