Part 7, Chapter 40 Summary

Claire awakens the next morning in her own bed, not knowing how she got there. Father Anselm is at her bedside. She asks for Jamie, to which the Father tells her immediately that he is o.k. and is sleeping in his room. The Father brought wine, which Claire drinks sitting upright suddenly and it makes her dizzy. She asks the Father if he will hear her confession, to which he offers to get another more experienced monk to hear it. Claire refuses saying she wants him and no one else. She pours her soul to him, the entire truth on how she is from 1945 and the things she has done since her arrival. The Father seems amazed at the story, and to Claire's surprise, he believes her.
