Part 7, Chapter 38 Summary

At the Abbey, the next morning they are to meet the abbot. The abbot is very nice and tells Claire that the monks took Jamie to be washed. Brother Ambrose is sent to tend to Jamie's wounds. Claire goes to sleep that night and wakes to Jamie screaming. He is on the other side of the wall from her, so she rushes over to him. He had a nightmare and one of the monks is with him. Claire takes Jamie into her arms and he wakes telling her to rid the room of the smell of lavender. It is as scent that he recognized from the dungeon at the prison, and Randall wore it also. The monk diligently takes the jar of oil out of the room and comes back with wine and an opiate. Jamie chooses the wine and drinks...
