Part 5, Chapter 27 Summary

The men go out and take wee Jamie with them. The women are left alone to get to know one another. Jenny is sewing and Claire is helping with the thread. They talk casually like strangers. Jamie's wife and Jamie's sister, it is awkward for both of them. The cook comes in around five o'clock looking for wee Jamie. He apparently got away from her. Claire and Jenny go to look for him. They find him in the dovecote with Jamie. Jamie is teaching him how to urinate standing up. The boy is trying not to get any on his foot. The women watch, then they all go into the house for dinner. Jamie shows Claire around the house. It is large and fairly modern for the time.

As Jamie leads her through the house Claire admires paintings on the wall...
