Part 3, Chapter 22 Summary

They arrive at the next town. It has an inn; and Dougal has to pay a hefty fee for their concealment of Jamie and Claire. They eat dinner quietly. Jamie hardly recognizes Claire and the men do not even look at her. After dinner they go upstairs to bed. Jamie isn't finished with Claire, though she thinks he will just let her sleep. He scolds Claire once again for what she did. He tells her that if it had only been him it would have been different, but she put all the men in danger by her actions. She feels very badly and tells him she is sorry. She did not fully realize the consequences and Jamie knows it. Jamie takes his belt off and tells her he will have to punish her. She objects and draws back into a corner...
