Part 3, Chapter 16 Summary

The next morning at breakfast is a little awkward for Jamie and Claire, but they get through it. They go outside and sit on a tree stump together, trying to be close again. Claire asks Jamie about the day they initially met, and why he came back to Scotland to meet up with Dougal instead of returning to the Fraser home. He tells her the sad story of how he heard that his sister was pregnant with Randall's child, so he could not return. There was talk of a man who killed the sergeant general and could clear Jamie's name of having done so; and through the family connections Jamie was connected with the MacKenzie clan.
