Part 2, Chapter 10 Summary

Claire is excited about the gathering. Mrs. Fitz tells her that the oaths will be taken by all of the men tonight; so Claire concludes that no one will be watching the stables. She plans to escape. That evening Claire manages to take the little food she has gathered and a bottle of water. She heads for the stables. She fumbles through the dark, only to be startled by Jamie. He asks her what she is doing. Claire is not shy in implying that she wants to escape. He proceeds to tell her why this is the worst night to escape, because of the guards posted around the castle and in the woods. There are also numerous other activities planned that encompass the surrounding grounds outside of the castle. She listens intently.
