Chapter 18: Subterfuge Summary

The next time Grace opens her eyes, she is in bed. Jaxx, the butler, tells Jackie Lee he will be downstairs if she needs him further and leaves. She asks Grace if she needs to take her to the hospital, and Grace tells her no so her mother resorts to tough love, telling her to pull herself together and be ready to go out for dinner with Kirby that evening. Grace lies there for some time before getting up, showering, dressing and fixing her hair. When Jackie Lee opens the door, Grace's appearance leaves her speechless. She tells Grace to wash, and get back into bed. When the doctor arrives, Grace tells him about the pills she is taking - just to sleep.
