Chapter 3 Summary

Lauren goes to the Whitworth home as she had been invited to do earlier in the day. Lauren showers and changes before joining the family for dinner. The Whitworths welcome Lauren with more grace than they had done years before, giving Lauren the impression that the family has mellowed out with age. Lauren apologizes to Philip, explaining that she does not believe she will be offered a job with Sinco, but does not tell him she purposely ruined the interview. Lauren also explains about meeting Nick, not aware of the collective intake of breath at the mention of Nick's name.

Lauren receives a phone call from Sinco's personnel manager during dinner asking her to come in for an interview with a Mr. Williams the following morning. Apparently Nick made a few phone calls and put in a good word for Lauren. Philip insists...
