Chapters 10-12 Summary

Kelly is released from the hospital. His Scout had been repaired, so he drove to the Springer, planning to spend the next two weeks recuperating on the island. He casts off. On the way, he reads the information a pathologist had provided about Pam's death. When he reaches the island, he finds the few things that Pam left behind, and begins to cry.

In North Carolina, bodies of the dead from Vietnam are being processed. The civilian mortician, when he isn't being watched, pulls out the stitches on a body and removes four bags of white powder, puts them in a bag, and closes the wound on the body. He repeats the same procedure on another body. One his way home, he calls Henry Tucker to tell him of the arrival of four kilos. His partners don't know where his supply...
