Chapters 51 and 52 Summary

In Chapter 51, on Gilbert's way to pick up the cake, Dave from the gas station is flagging him down. When Gilbert gets to Food Land he is mesmerized by the number of registers, the shiny floor, and the numerous products lining the shelves. While he is waiting for the bakery to put candles on the cake, he wanders the aisles. Amy calls from the beauty parlor, where she, Ellen and Momma are having their hair and makeup done for Arnie's party, which is the following day.

In Chapter 52, when Gilbert hears a knock at the front door, he finds Becky standing in his yard saying she has surprise for him. The surprise is a mirror so that Gilbert can see the hate that Becky says Gilbert has. Arnie shows up behind Gilbert with frosting all over his hands. Gilbert drags Arnie...
