Chapters 25 and 26 Summary

In Chapter 25, when Gilbert arrives home, Arnie is crying because he stepped on a bee and Amy is applying a paste to stop the stinging. Gilbert meets Betty Carver at their special spot for their anniversary picnic. Betty pretends to drown in the river to get Gilbert to save her. Right before Gilbert jumps in to save her, Betty stands up. As Gilbert starts to redress and walk away, Betty threatens Gilbert that if he leaves, they are over. Gilbert leaves.

In Chapter 26, Gilbert is in the basement sorting laundry when he notices what a good job Tucker did on building the support to keep Momma from falling through the floor.
