Chapters 19 and 20 Summary

In Chapter 19, when Gilbert returns to the grocery store, Mr. Lamson tells Gilbert Amy came by and dropped off an envelope for him. He mentions that Arnie refused to come in the store, but instead stayed in the car. Amy writes Gilbert a note saying they only have $30, along with the grocery list, and for Gilbert to ask Mr. Lamson if they can have the rest on credit. As Gilbert is loading the groceries into his truck, Betty Carver pulls up telling Gilbert that Thursday is their seven-year anniversary. When Gilbert asks why she picked him, Betty admits it's because she knew Gilbert would never leave Endora.
