Chapters 3 and 4 Summary

In Chapter 3, Gilbert works at Lamson Grocery, which is the smaller of the two grocery stores in town. Gilbert has been working at the grocery store since he was 14, but has been full-time since he was 17. When Gilbert goes into the store, he says good morning to his boss and his boss's wife, while he starts to sweep the aisles. Mr. Lamson asks if Gilbert is okay, and Gilbert says he just got up early to take Arnie to see the carnival rides some in. Mr. Lamson takes a five-dollar bill from the cash register drawer and gives it to Gilbert to take Arnie to the carnival.
