Summary

Chapter 35

Frannie is writing one last short letter to Phil. She tells him how the family is ecstatic because Madison just won an oratory competition. Elisabeth is adapting well to being a mother, and Alice seems so much more at peace. Frannie herself is happier now that she has Xavier in her life. She ends the letter with a final farewell to Phil.

Epilogue

Many years have passed and Alice’s children are now teenagers or just finishing college. Alice and Nick ended up getting back together. Their relationship isn’t perfect, but they’ve managed to strike a perfect balance between their working lives and their personal lives. Elisabeth ended up adopting three children. Frannie was happy with Xavier, who had incorporated himself into the family, and Barb and Roger are still happily together as well.
