Summary

Chapter 21

Madison questions Alice about basic facts she should know about the children. Nick tries to get her to stop, but the kids discover Alice has amnesia. The chapter shifts to Elisabeth writing to her doctor. She and Ben got in a horrible fight on the way home. They each thought the other was opposed to adoption. Elisabeth was tired, which drove her to be firmly against it now. Ben accused her of just wanting to sit around with the television on, and Elisabeth admitted that was fine with her. Since then, Ben hasn’t spoken to her.

Chapter 22

Alice has dinner with the kids and Nick and tries to explain the situation. Her children bicker back and forth, but Nick does his best to keep them under control. Alice tells Madison about all the little things they did when she was pregnant...
