Chapter 4-9 Summary

Back in Washington DC, home to Alex Cross, Cross continues to receive threatening and harassing calls from the Mastermind. For a week, the calls occur relentlessly. The team from the Washington DC police department attempts to trace the calls. However, he thwarts them with a trace that leads back to police headquarters and quickly jumps off the grid.

That evening, Cross goes on a date with Elizabeth Moore. He admits that, though he desires a personal life, he rarely dates, because of his work schedule. As they eat, Moore discusses Cross's availability. She points out all of Cross's great attributes and wonders why he remains available. During the conversation, Cross receives a page from Kyle Craig at the FBI. Craig describes, in detail, the murders in the Golden Gate Park.
