Summary

Chapter 1

The books begins with Kennedy walking through a graveyard at night with her cat Elvis. Elvis runs off, however, seemingly spooked, which is out of the ordinary. While trying to search for her cat Kennedy starts hearing noises of the night and it pulls out a memory from her childhood. She remembers that in the past someone had entered into her house at night and her mother had hidden her in the crawlspace, telling her to keep quiet. She had hidden for a long time and to Kennedy the time spent in hiding seemed to suffocate her. Back in the present, with the memory surfacing again, it makes Kennedy want to get home with or without Elvis. She calls out to her cat, trying to find him. Elvis comes shooting out to her, scratching her arm as he goes past her. As...
