Summary

In Chapter 21, Cora’s feet hurt when Maju tried to give her a bath because her shoes had cut her feet. Maju calls Cora by her new name Ana, and Cora protests, insisting that is not her name and shouting that she wants her mom. She starts to cry, gets out of the bath, and runs back into the bedroom. While chasing after Cora, Maju breaks the statue of Our Lady of Aparecida. Maju thinks it is a sign from God that she is doing the wrong thing. Her heart begins beating very quickly and she worries she is going to have a heart attack. The fear of a heart attack makes her panic about what would happen to Cora if she died.
