Summary

In Chapter 8, Fernanda recalls meeting Yara for the first time during a production meeting for a nature documentary series.

In Chapter 9, Maju recalls another maid, named Neide, who had offered to give Maju her baby. Neide already had one child and knew that she would lose her job if she had another one, because her boss would believe that she would not be able to continue her duties and raise two children. She was distraught when she became pregnant and tried to convince Maju to adopt the child after she gave birth but Maju declined because at the time she was still trying to conceive with Lauro. When Neide gave birth, she abandoned the baby in a park. She was quickly caught by police, given a short prison sentence, and shamed on the news for abandoning her baby. After Lauro left her, Maju...
