Riptide/the lion mane

Both of these items belong to Percy, with the mane being a new addition while Riptide has been with him since the first book. In the past though, they were wielded by the famous hero, Hercules, someone that Percy has been shown to look up to. Zoe and Mr. D help Percy realize that he wasn’t the hero that everyone made him out to be, and he was constantly putting his needs above everyone else, and just cared about his glory. Percy is shown to reject this idea of a hero, sacrificing the cloak as tribute, and even directly telling Zoe that he wasn’t going to be like Hercules.
