Summary

In Chapter 31: "The Day that Changed Everything," Arlo's forbidden memory is told in the second-person. At 17 years old, Arlo and S were planning for their future. However, They were forced to run from the Deaf Devils where Arlo was knocked out. He woke up to police who arrested him and got him to sign a paper with a competent interpreter and under duress. Back at Brother Birch's house, it is revealed that the paper was a confession that Arlo was part of the Deaf Devils and raped S. He swears that never happened, and is devastated to learn that S is dead.
