Summary

The prologue is dated “January 2015.” Daniel Lemaitre visits the hotel he designed with his property developer friend, Lucas Caron. Daniel finds it creepy and sinister. He cannot believe that it is finally completed despite all the protesters. When he goes outside to find his car in the snow, he finds a bracelet and then someone in a mask attacks him.

A press release announcing the opening of Le Sommet in March of 2018 is presented at the end of the prologue.

The first chapter is dated “January 2020: Day One.” An omniscient narrator zooms in on Elin Warner’s consciousness as she takes the funicular from the valley town of Sierre to Crans-Montana.
