Summary

The prologue begins with a description of Richard Gansey III who was born into a successful family. He was killed by hornets as a kid, but was brought back to life as someone else on the ley line died. Years later, Gansey holds a vigil on the mystical ley lines because he wants to know why he was saved. Afterward, he hears a recording of himself speaking his own name. While Gansey tries to deny it, he knows that, in the next year, he is going to die.

In Chapter One, the psychics on 300 Fox Way meet to assess the end of Gansey. They all feel that they are too close to Gansey but continue on with their meeting.
