Summary

In Chapter 16, after leaving JJ's, Lynette went to the truck stop for coffee. Even this place "haunted her" (129). She used to come with Jack and Kenny. Imagining what Jack might think of her now, she got upset again. Other than her family, Jack "was the only person she had ever really loved, and he was the only person...who had ever loved her" (130). They had met nine years prior when Lynette was working at Tulip Pastry Shop. The more he came into the shop, the more they talked. Eventually they started dating. Lynette never told "him about her past, about running away, or about JJ" (131). She also never mentioned her anger, her depression, or her suicidal ideations. The months passed, and they grew closer. Sometimes Lynette was convinced “Jack had been sent by her grandfather to save her life" (133).
