The Kulaks

The kulaks- or the peasents from Ukraine’s countryside- represent the victims of propaganda. This is seen best through Mila’s beliefs. Even though she has never spoken to a kulak, she has been indoctrinated by her father and the communist party to believe that the kulaks are involved. By doing this, Stalin forces the kulaks to submit to his rule, while ensuring that they do not have any allies to stand up for them.
