Summary

In Chapter 10: "Matthew," GG makes him put everything away before his mother sees. That night, Matthew asks his mother about Helen and Mila, but she does not know anything. So, Matthew goes to bed with more questions while imagining life without Covid.

Chapter 11: "Mila" returns to Kyiv in March, 1933. Mila is horrified to find an emaciated girl on the doorstep claiming to be a Lomachenko related to Mila. Dasha arrives, stunned when the girl introduces herself as Nadiya, Mila’s cousin. However, this enrages Papa who calls her a lying kulak and sends her away. He questions why Mila was not more vigilant, and gets upset when Mila questions his motives. Her friend Katya arrives and Mila decides to track down Nadiya to learn the truth.
