Point of View

The novel is told in three, distinct point-of-views. Each one is set in a different location, with two taking place between the years of 1932-1933 and one in 2020. While each narrator is a similar age, they all have distinct voices and concerns that start to overlap towards the end.

Matthew is the narrator for the present day story set in New Jersey. As a junior-high student in the midst of the Covid lockdowns, Matthew struggles a lot with loneliness and longing that life will return to normal. His narration becomes the lens for the other two narrators, as GG is the one sharing those stories with him. Matthew’s main source of conflict is between himself and his parents as they struggle to navigate the uncertainty of a locked down world.
