Summary

In Chapter 5, entering the camp, Emma realizes the landscape is like one of her paintings. She describes the four-foot stone walls that surround the property as well as the archway over the road that makes it appear they are entering a cemetery.

Emma recognizes the handyman, who is nailing shingles in place on the roof of the arts and crafts building, from 15 years ago. She remembers Vivian’s comment that she would like to have sex with him. When the car stops in front of the Lodge, the building where Franny and her family members live, Emma steps out and walks to the lake.
