Summary

In Chapter 36, Jen goes to Sarah's cottage. Answering Jen's questions, John says he was in Spennicott the previous afternoon, looking at a farm he and Sarah want to buy with Frank's help. They hope to convince him to invest in that property, giving John and Sarah more room for their growing family. When Jen says they found Frank's body, John's first statement is that they are in trouble. Sarah does not believe Frank will leave them anything, having often touted the downfalls of inherited money. John leaves the room and Jen predicts he will now spend hours on the computer. Jen notices the signs of stress in this marriage but she feels Sarah does stand up for herself. She tries to evaluate the situation without thoughts of her own abusive marriage. She realizes that John and Sarah have been under an enormous amount...
