Summary

In Chapter 6, Matthew's husband Jonathan is planning dinner for the following day, having invited Matthew's mother, Mrs. Venn, for lunch to celebrate her birthday. She and Matthew have been estranged but Jonathan sent her a written invitation to lunch and she sent a written acceptance. Jonathan is the manager of the Woodyard, a former timber yard that has been converted into a place for artists to gather, work, and hold classes. Eve and Jonathan have become friends because of his role in the art community. She calls while he is planning the birthday dinner, asking to meet right away. They meet at the cafe at the Woodyard. Eve begins by saying she met Matthew. She then says someone killed Nigel. They talk for a few minutes. Jonathan offers to let Eve stay with them and she promises to think about it.
