Summary

In Chapter Two, El theorized that the trade her parents had made for the Golden Sutras had come at a very high price. Her father had died, her mother had grieved, El had been born with terrible powers, then had been eaten by a maw-mouth—all so El could get the book. She was in shock with the news, so she told her mother she needed to think, and her mother left her alone in the yurt. Liesel—the valedictorian of the Scholomance and the newest member of the London enclave—showed up with Alfie and Sarah to ask El for her help. She told El that a maleficer and a maw-mouth had been working together to attack enclaves. Bangkok had been destroyed the year before, and Salta and London had been attacked on the day of graduation.
