Summary

Chapter 10 takes place in Late September 997. Edgar, having worked all his life for his father, is shocked by Dreng's temper and cruelty. He remembers Sunni's advice about her husband and stays out of Dreng's way as much as possible but prepares to fight to win when necessary. Edgar knows two things are keeping Dreng from getting rid of Edgar – the fact that Cwenburg is now part of Edgar's family and that Edgar is a skilled builder who works for virtually nothing. Edgar spends a large amount of time getting the foundation right for the brewhouse by improvising a level that utilizes a hollowed stick and a ball. Edgar is the only person who seems kind to Blod. She does not really understand this kindness and offers sex in return. Edgar refuses. He does not understand sex for the sake of sex without love...
