Summary

Chapter 7 takes place in Late August 997 in Cherbourg. Ragna is relieved when her menstrual cycle begins, meaning she is not pregnant. She knows that a peasant girl who becomes pregnant out of wedlock might find someone willing to marry her anyway, but a noblewoman is scorned forever. Louis had given his approval for Guillaume to marry Ragna, and Guillaume arrives to decide for himself. He makes it clear Ragna is going to be relegated to managing the household – specifically weaving, sewing, and doing laundry. Ragna pleads with Genevieve who says an unmarried noblewoman is nothing but a drain on her family. Ragna wants to marry Wilf but feels certain she will have to marry Guillaume. One day, Wynstan arrives on a ship saying Wilf has sent him to ask for Ragna's hand in marriage. Privately, he tells Ragna that Wilf worried his departure...
