Summary

In Chapter 7, Madison continued to spend time outside as Mr. B set traps. Madison helped scrape the hides. When there was a sizable bundle, Mr. B left Madison in the cellar and was gone for a while. She learned to be patient, knowing he would return with food. He always brought back a Hungry Man dinner and ate it secretly, but sometimes left a few bites for Madison. One day, Madison caught a glimpse of the road. She took Mr. B's hand in an attempt to convey that she would not run away. That night, he set several traps on the table and pushed her very near, clearly threatening her if she should try to run away. When he released her, Madison shoved her hand very near a trap, again trying to show that she would not run away.
