Summary

In “Chapter 21,” Ashley goes back to school and sees that Kimberly has written “slut” and “whore” on her locker. At lunch, Ashley has no one to sit with. LaShawn invites her to sit with him and the Black kids, and she agrees. They invite her to come with their church to help rebuild the destruction in South Central. After lunch, Ashley goes to the principal’s office and sees LaShawn’s mother pleading for the principal to not contact Stanford about what the fight LaShawn started. The principal agrees not to so long as LaShawn works in the office after school. Once LaShawn’s mother leaves, Ashley admits to the principal that she started the rumor and says she wants to take responsibility for her actions. Ashley also tells the principal that Lana has bruises on her body because her mother is abusive...
