Summary

In “Chapter 15,” Ashley’s father picks up his brother and brings him home to recover from his injuries. Ashley frets because she has no one to do her hair. All the Black salons are closed or destroyed. Her cousin, Morgan, offers to do it for her. Ashley dances in the kitchen with Lucia. Her dad comes in and joins the fun. When her mother comes in, she looks at her husband and Lucia disapprovingly. Ashley reflects that her mother often acts strange around Lucia. Ashley had picked out a prom dress with Lucia, but her mom found out and said she would take her to find a dress, then picked one out for her that Ashley did not like as much as the one she had found with Lucia.
