Summary

In “Chapter 18,” Ashley’s whole life flashes in front of her eyes as the police officer points a gun at her. Two of LaShawn’s elderly neighbors run outside and vouch for him. The police officer leaves and says she was only doing her job. One of LaShawn’s neighbors tells him that his family went to stay with his aunt. LaShawn tells Ashley he will take her home. They walk back to Trevor’s car, but it has been keyed and one of the tires has been popped.

In “Chapter 19,” Ashley calls Lana and asks for help. Lana arrives with Pham and he fixes the tire for Ashley and LaShawn. They all drive back to Lana’s house and spend the night there. Lana explains that she went with Pham to a party for his friend, who is dying of AIDS. Ashley...
